I have no time for 'political correctness' per se.  Are people really so 'thin skinned'?  Sticks and stones…

There is a famous quote (so famous that I can't accurately quote it!) that has been attributed, depending on the exact wording, to both Abraham Lincoln and Mark Twain and goes along the lines of “It is better to remain silent and be thought a fool, than to open ones mouth and confirm it!”

When I do speak, which is not very often, I try my best not to offend.  I know, and use, every swear word in the English language, but I do not swear in the company of ladies or children.  I do my best not to upset anyone.  Even the most eloquent speakers make 'gaffs' sometimes.  We all 'put our foot in it' at some time or other.  No ones perfect!

I believe in calling a spade, a spade.  It is a spade, not a shovel.  Now!  If you thought I was being, somehow, racist then that's your problem - not mine!

Just because most people are ignorant and can't be bothered to use a dictionary to explore the rich vocabulary we have, shouldn't mean that I can't use words, of which I know the meaning, because some uneducated, left-wing idiot (who, most likely, is one of those least inclined to use a dictionary), doesn't understand the even want to understand what I have to say!  I will not be dictated to by the ignorant left-wing!  Who uses a dictionary these days?  Certainly not the left-wing PC activists.

Having stated that, society must of course protect the vulnerable.  Some of the words or phrases that the average 'Joe Bloggs' might use (let alone those nasties of the BNP) when referring to say, people with Asperger's Syndrome are, quite frankly, awful!  However, I currently enjoy voluntary work with young adults who have varying degrees of Autism / Asperger's - you'd be amazed as to how they refer to themselves!  That is, of course, their prerogative - but you 'stuck-up prigs' who would reign me in - go out and educate yourselves!
